Oaks Drop Heartbreaker in Nightcap
WICHITA, Kans. -- It was a
long night for the Conejo Oaks (3-1) as they battled
tough against the Liberal (KS) BeeJays in a
heartbreaking 6-5 loss early Tuesday morning.
The Oaks took a strong lead
in the top of the fourth with a lead off triple to right center by first
baseman David Casey, followed by an RBI double down the left field line by
third baseman Ryan Delgado. Catcher Matt Scioscia
continued the hitting trend with a single up the middle. Delgado came around to
score when Kenny Hatcher whopped a single through the left side. Later in the
inning shortstop Jarred Frierson hit a two RBI single
to right center.
Heading into the top of the
ninth and with a lead of only two runs, the Oaks experienced their most
controversial inning of the summer. With two outs Liberal center fielder Rindels, who was batting in the six spot, hit a single up
the middle. In a play at the plate that should have ended the game, the runner
was ruled safe and the BeeJays took the lead.
In the bottom half of the
frame the Oaks were rattled after head coach Jimmy Stueve's
ejection after discussing the call with the home plate umpire. All three
batters came up short to end the game.
The Oaks advance on to the
Sweet Six to play in the Quarter Finals on Thursday. Game time will be 5, 7, or
10pm and the opponent is still to be determined.
