Oaks Open NBC World Series With Win

WICHITA, Kans. -- The Conejo Oaks opened their 2009 National Baseball Congress World Series tournament bout with a 4-2 victory over the Nevada (MO) Griffons.

Oaks starting pitcher, Robbie Selden worked for 5.1 innings. Selden gave up only one run on six hits, walking one, and striking out four.

The game was tied after nine innings but the Oaks only needed one more frame to seal the victory. Jake Fiss started the inning with a lead-off double down the left field line. He was later moved to third by a Chris Hertz bunt. Jarred Frierson singled through the right side to score Fiss. Hertz later scored during the single to center field by Jack Marder. Marder finished the night 3-5 with one RBI for the Oaks.

The next tournament game for the Oaks will be Friday, August 7th at 5pm when they take on the Hayes (KS) Larks.
