CASEY LEADS OAKS TO VICTORY, AVOID SERIES SWEEP

SANTA MARIA, Calif. -- The Conejo Oaks (22-16, 8-10) came alive to avoid the sweep as they defeated the Santa Maria Packers in game three of the California Collegiate League road series Thursday. The Oaks posted six runs on 13 hits and committed three errors in the victory.

First baseman David Casey put up impressive offensive numbers for the Oaks, going 3-5 with three RBI and one run scored. Casey was only a triple short of hitting for the cycle, which included his two run homer over the right field fence in the seventh inning.

The Packers held the lead at 3-0 until the top of the fifth inning. A one out double by center fielder Chris Hertz who was later driven in by a single up the middle by second baseman Jack Marder. Kyle Jones who reached first on a walk scored the second run of the inning when Casey singled through the right side.

The Oaks dominated the rest of the game with their hot bats. Shortstop Brad Greve, who went 3-5 with two RBI, drove in a run in the sixth with his single to right field, then another with a full count double down the left field line in the top of the eighth. Right fielder Kyle Jones continued his six game hitting streak with a single to right in the eighth.

Starting pitcher Justin Shutt worked six complete innings giving up three runs, two earned, off seven hits. Shutt struck out six and walked one to improve to 5-1 on the season.

The Oaks return home to Sparky Anderson Field Friday, July 17th to take on the East LA Dodgers. First pitch is 5:00pm. The Oaks will be at home through the weekend, facing the San Luis Obispo Blues in a double header on Saturday and an afternoon game against the Cal Lutheran Hogs on Sunday.
