PERFECT NIGHT BY CASEY NOT ENOUGH FOR OAKS

SANTA MARIA, Calif. -- The Conejo Oaks got back to California Collegiate League play as they hit the road to take on the Santa Maria Packers. Both teams were coming off a great showcase at the CCL All-Star game as well as meeting each other in the championship round of the Rawlings California Cup qualifying tournament.

The Oaks were down by two runs in the top of the third but quickly caught up. Chris LoPiccolo singled to left field, followed by a Brad Greve single to center. Jack Marder later hit a two RBI single to right field to tie the game. Starting pitcher Matt Dunbar went for five complete innings giving up four runs, three earned, on six hits. He walked three and struck out four.

First baseman David Casey was 3-3 on the night, two of which were for extra bases. His leadoff double in the eighth inning put him in scoring position to be batted in by a single through the right side by Jake Fiss to tie the game at four runs each. The Oaks fell short of the win late in the ninth inning, relief pitcher Sean McIntyre gave up a single to right field to score the winning run for the Packers.

The Oaks continue their series with the Santa Maria Packers on Wednesday, July 15th at Elks Field. First pitch is at 1:00pm.
