OAKS START INVITATIONAL WITH WINS

 

SANTA MARIA, Calif. – Games one and two of the Santa Maria Invitational were both successful for the Conejo Oaks as they defeated the Oakland Expos 4-1 and later in the evening defeated the Santa Maria Pilots 3-2.

 

In game one the Oaks took the lead in the bottom of the fourth started by a lead off double from second baseman Jack Marder. Marder stole third and later scored on a sacrifice bunt by left fielder Brad Greve. The Oaks later solidified the win with a huge seventh inning. Designated hitter Bryan Willson smashed a two RBI home run over the left fence, which was followed by a David Casey triple to left center. Willson finished game one 2-2 with two RBI and one run scored. The Oaks defeated the Expos and advanced in the tournament brackets.

 

Game two was another win for the Oaks, scoring their runs early in the game. A string of singles in the third inning and an error by the Pilots third baseman earned two runs for the Oaks. Starting and winning pitcher Matt Montgomery went five complete innings, giving up no runs on only five hits. Montgomery walked one and struck out six.

 

The Oaks next tournament opponent will be the San Luis Obispo Blues at 2:00pm on July the Fourth. The Oaks return to Sparky Anderson field on Friday, July 17th to take on the East LA Dodgers at 5:00pm.
