BARONS DEFEAT OAKS IN FIRST ROAD GAME

COMPTON, Calif. -- The Conejo Oaks (1-3, 1-3) couldn't quite get the momentum they needed in their first road game last night. The Urban Youth Academy Barons (1-0, 1-0) had strong hits throughout the game that gave them their first win of the season with a 4-3 victory over the Oaks.

The Barons took an early lead in the first inning with three singles that scored one run. The Oaks couldn't respond until the third inning starting with a single down the right field line from right fielder Chris Hertz who then advanced into scoring position on a called balk. After a sacrifice fly from second baseman Tyler Smith and shortstop Brad Greve reaching on an error, left fielder Jacob Fiss drove in an RBI with his single to the shortstop.

In the top of the ninth inning with the Barons up by two runs a solo home run by catcher Matt Scioscia wasn't enough for the Oaks to regain the lead. The Oaks continue California Collegiate League play when they take on the Barons in game two of the series on Wednesday, June 10 in Compton.

Sunday, June 14th is Youth Baseball Day at Sparky Anderson Field. Any child wearing their team jersey will be invited to participate in exciting activities throughout the game.
